Orthopedic physical therapy · San Francisco
Back, neck, shoulder, hip, or knee pain that won't quit, or recovery after surgery. One-on-one care that finds the root cause, then builds the strength to keep it from coming back.
Orthopedic physical therapy treats the muscles, joints, tendons, and bones that let you move. If something hurts when you sit, lift, run, or sleep, this is where it starts.
Too often, orthopedic PT means a few minutes with the therapist and a sheet of generic exercises. My sessions are different: 60 to 90 minutes, one-on-one, with hands-on treatment followed by strength work in the same hour. I look at how your whole body moves, because the knee that hurts is often being overloaded by a hip that doesn't.
I'm trained in dry needling and the Barbell Rehab Method, and I've practiced in Australia and the US, including orthopedic rehab with Mercy Ships in Senegal.
90 minutes. We start with your story, then I look at how you move, not just where it hurts. The spot that hurts is often not the spot causing it.
Hands-on treatment to calm things down, then strength so the change actually holds. Every session is treatment and training in the same hour.
Pain-free is the starting line, not the finish. We keep training until you're back to full strength and doing the thing you love.
Everyone starts with a 90-minute assessment ($250): a full-body movement assessment, hands-on treatment, and your first loaded session in the same visit. You leave with a written plan. Follow-ups are 60 minutes ($250) at your home or at Tribe Fitness on Columbus Avenue, or virtual ($150) from anywhere.
I'm out of network. Pay directly with HSA or FSA, and I provide a superbill after every session. Most clients with out-of-network benefits get 60 to 70 percent back.

"I've seen a fair share of PTs over the past 15 years having gone through back and shoulder issues and multiple surgeries (labrum repair and L4/L5 discectomy) and Emily stands out on top of the list."

Common questions
Yes. Dry needling is one of the hands-on tools I use when it fits your problem, always alongside movement and strength work, never instead of it.
Many of my clients say exactly that. Longer one-on-one sessions let me find the underlying cause instead of treating the spot that hurts, and we build strength so the change holds.
No. California allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can book with me directly. If your insurance needs a referral for reimbursement, I'll help you sort that out on our free call.
